Winter Studies No. 3

from Winter Studies EP by Construction & Destruction

/

lyrics

Did the last summer moth
exhaust itself
beating back the night?
So now nothing gathers round to coax
a brightness from the night?
Is this agitation in my heart
mine alone?
Mine alone?

But it is not the moth's fault.
Who anyway can know a trick candle
to sight it?
To light it?
And who can keep a fire going
when it is slaked with snow
each night?
I asked the Trojan thing in
knowing full well what it was.
I layed all its foot soldiers down.
I saw the sky and the coming snow.
I saw the miserable fire-keepers
huddle over their charges and blow!
I saw it all poised to go!
I saw eaves fraught with snow!
I saw light as a cruel joke
and I can't ever go back!
Is this agitation in my heart
mine?
Alone?
